Artworks are not neutral documents, capable of presenting facts or objective reality. Rather, they are subjective expressions of creative individuals with mindsets and values of a specific time and place.
But this neutrality is also specific to Singapore. I will return to this in my final argument. These interactions were most evident in art education, patronage and circulation of artworks and ideas.
